What is a fashion event?
There are many events that punctuate the year, all of which have a significant impact on brand visibility. The most important of these are Fashion Weeks. As the name suggests, the leading brands in a major city present their new collections at a series of catwalk shows over the course of a week. There are two types of Fashion Weeks: the autumn-winter collection, presented in spring (usually between February and March) in anticipation of the seasons to come, and the spring-summer collection, presented in autumn (between September and October).
The most emblematic and historic of all Fashion Weeks is Paris: created in 1973, it presents the ready-to-wear and haute couture collections of houses such as Dior, Courrèges, Balmain, Isabel Marant, Valentino, Balenciaga, Alexis Mabille, Givenchy and Chanel!
The other fashion capitals hosting the most notable Fashion Weeks are Milan, Tokyo, London and New York.
Fashion Weeks are now held all over the world, on every continent.
How does a fashion show work?
The fashion show is a highly anticipated moment in the fashion world. It's the moment when the designer can present a concept applied to clothes that he or she has been working on all year.
It's a real show, with a scenography - sound, light, decoration, location - in line with the world of the collection: a fashion show is therefore an opportunity for models to parade down the catwalk.
Ready-to-wear and haute couture houses are constantly on the lookout for models who match their brand, and who are key to the success of a new clothing collection. The silhouette, make-up and hairstyle, as well as body and facial expression, all play their part in creating a striking impact and a lasting memory for the hand-picked guests.
The front row of fashion shows is dedicated to the most important guests: it's on the front row that you'll see celebrities, editors-in-chief of the biggest fashion magazines (Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Allure, W Magazine, Numéro) and today the biggest influencers of the social networking generation.
How do you organise a fashion event?
Fashion events are generally organised in seven main stages:
- Designing the universe
- Selecting the venue
- Selection of service providers: sound engineers, stage managers, make-up artists, hairdressers - have you seen the Netflix competition series Next in Fashion? Nothing is left to chance.
- Model casting
- Fittings
- Dress rehearsal
- D-Day: your fashion event
